to say this is about LLM's would be against the point

2026-10-03

The negativity towards LLM's is 100% warranted. But..    Sorry, that looks like I'm about to go into nuance. No, that's the nuanced position. Perhaps ask again when every bit that's built upon violations of consent suffers the same effect they consider acceptable towards nature.

But this article isn't quite about that. In fact, draw an imaginary circle for all of the creatures, and within it draw a smaller one for those excited about LLM's. Okay, now send the inner one into space, we literally don't need it right now. Yipe. I'm really sorry if some of your friends were there. Maybe we can arrange an expedition to disentangle some of them later, if they do promise to stop harming us..

Some of the crucial infrastructure was also in the middle, and it'll take time to replace. But we now have our own donut-shaped habitat, and perhaps for the first time we can agree to make it really pretty and frosted,,

We don't always have the energy to create, but when we do, each fragment is purposely placed and creatively crafted. I sure hope we have fun throughout nearly every part of the process? While the doughnut's not all ideal.. the activity of creating something should *not* feel like a chore. When it does, it could be a sign of systemic problems (including burnout and unnecessary complexity), or an indication that a different creature could be doing that instead *and* having fun!

The center of the doughnut unfortunately continues to be brought up near-hourly at the center of everyone's attention. I would not be in the right to blame anyone for it – the harm that it has done, or continues to entail, is unprecedented.

The reactions from creative creatures have been variable – some have been more happy to share low-energy scribbles, because no matter how unpolished, someone actually bothered to create them; while some were feeling down emotionally, having witnessed a noticeable amount of people not caring for ethics nor intent, which also led to these artists and developers doubting own ability to deliver meaningful change through own creations.

I struggle following this advice myself – because communication often feels frightening, or is improbable without interacting with awful platforms – but it's never been as important to share positive feedback towards creatures that made an impact on your life, no matter how small. Artworks they've drawn, music they've composed, software they contributed to, games or mods they put together, fiction, guides or any other medium I've not explicitly named that they created something in that shape of.

A rentseeker's machine that's only deterministic in its trait of inflicting harm will never erase whimsical creativity, earnest kindness, exciting puzzle-solving. But we need to be loud about those too.
